By
focusing our efforts on a single area of rural Ghana -- currently, five small towns with a combined population of about 12,000 -- we are tackling some of the largest problems facing the developing world on an effective, manageable scale. The Yonso Project exists to address the needs of the people in the towns we serve by implementing and funding programs that serve both the community as a whole and each individual or family we work with. In the three years since the Yonso Project was created, we have provided:
- Scholarships to over 100 students who otherwise would not have gone to school
- Microloans to over 120 women needing credit to start a business
- Assistance to Local Schools
- Funding to give teachers housing
- Thousands of books for the public schools
- Ecotourism to provide jobs and preserve the integrity and beauty of the environment around Yonso
- The Teach for Rural Ghana program, to attract teachers to Yonso and to attract young Ghanaians to careers in teaching
